About the webinar
Does your dog work containers like a ball bouncing around a pinball machine? Do you worry that containers have been skipped, but you're cautious about interfering too much? Are you worried about calling "Finish" and being correct? This webinar uses hide placement and other techniques to help your dog learn to be more careful during a container search. We use patterns in our layouts and hide placement to help the dog start searching immediately (think good thresholds!) and independently. Did you know that your dog learns through patterns? Dogs are both emotional AND cognitive creatures. We'll use their cognitive skills so that they learn through experience without interference from the handler. Everyone learns better when they figure out the answer on their own rather than having someone give it to them, and dogs are the same! These exercises can be done at home. It may make sense to start in a room rather than outdoors, but depending on your space, you can make it work. If your dog is newer to Nosework, I suggest cardboard boxes. More experienced dogs can use alternative containers as long as odor is readily available. The dog needs to be able to detect the odor on the first pass for the container to be "good" for training. Includes a downloadable handout with a summary, checklist, training log and more, so you can set up the container patterns at home and track how methodical your dog becomes. Note: This webinar does NOT address box smashing (that's a different issue, covered in Nose Not the Feet!).
