A plan to overcome your environmental challenges

About the webinar

Does your dog get overly distracted by critters? Pee smells? Scavenging? People? Noises? Dog smells? This list isn’t complete, but unless you’re searching with a robot, you’ve probably experienced this to some extent! Regardless of your training level, experience, or drive levels, you will face environmental challenges in searching. When you do, your dog will either overcome the distraction and keep working, or their focus will shift away from target odor. Uh-oh! That can mean missed hides or slow times at best, and complete cessation of searching at worst. Your dog’s ability to overcome distraction depends on their comfort level, arousal, reinforcement history, history of success, and the challenge level of the hide itself. We talk about all of these and lay out how you can understand what is driving your issue and how to overcome your environmental challenges! Includes a downloadable handout with a summary, checklist, training log and more, to help you identify what’s driving your dog’s distraction and track progress as you work through it.
